The University of Cologne has several campuses. Most classes in the Department of English take place at the Philosophikum, located on the main campus. 

Philosophikum

This is where most of your seminars take place. You'll also find the offices of most lecturers, the departmental library, the Student Information Office (SIO), and two small cafés (Café Phil and the Bistro).

Ground floor: Rooms are labeled with S and Arabic numbers (e.g., S67). Exception: Lecture hall H80.
The rooms are grouped by corridors:

e.g. Corridor 5: rooms 50–59

Floors 1–5: Room numbers follow this pattern: Floor.Corridor/Room Number.
Example: Room 2.209 = 2nd floor, corridor 2.
Tip: Check the emergency exit plans on each floor – they show the room layout!

Hauptgebäude (Main Building)

Rooms here use Roman numerals (e.g., XVII). They are spread across the main building and the WiSo wing ("WiSo-Schlauch", in the northern part of the campus).

• Rooms I–VIII: basement
• Rooms XII–XVIII: first floor
• Rooms XX+: WiSo faculty
• Exception: Room XXI = 2nd floor of the main building
• Central lecture halls: Aula 1 and 2

There are signs, floor plans, and an information desk near the entrance to help you find your way.

Seminargebäude (Seminar Building)

Rooms are labeled S01 to S26.
Caution: These are not in the Philosophikum! The similar room names often confuse students at first.

Hörsaalgebäude (Lecture Hall)

Lecture halls here are labeled with capital letters A–H.
 

Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek (Library)

The Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek (USB) is the main library of the University of Cologne and one of the largest academic libraries in Germany. It’s located right next to the main campus, close to the Philosophikum. Here you can study in quiet reading rooms od group work areas, borrow books for your seminars and use printers, scanners and computers.
